Speech/Language Therapy

Speech Therapy provides a wide range of therapeutic interventions to develop and/or improve a child’s communication and feeding skills.  Each child at the Child Development Center of Colorado Springs is evaluated by an ASHA [1] credentialed speech therapist using standardized tests and observations to assess baseline strengths, limitations, and functional skills.  A therapeutic plan is then developed with long-term and short-term goals.  Short-term speech goals typically include specific measurable steps that are taken to meet our long-term goals of optimal and successful communication and feeding skills.

Your speech language pathologist works closely with your family, medical personal, and other therapists to achieve the best possible outcome for your child.  We are committed to developing skills that will promote safety, independence, and excellent quality of life.

Pediatric Speech/Language Pathologist

A speech/language therapist has at least a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology as well as a nine-month internship and national certification with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association [1].  A pediatric speech/language pathologist is a therapist who specializes in developing and/or improving speech and language skills in children.  This includes what a child can understand and use such as gestures, words, and written symbols to communicate.  The child will also gain strength, control, and use of the oral motor musculature (the area of the face and mouth) needed for feeding and speaking.
